In their visual and performative exchange, Tomáš Kajánek and Artur Żmijewski search for a certain personal attitude or relation that might be adopted towards official memorials as well as unofficial ones. The visual dialogue took place in 2015 as a chain reaction where images were used as a language. The selection presented during the Fotograf Festival represents a segment of this exchange and as such, it is also a new interpretation of the conversation. It features postcards by Kajánek where he deleted (leaving behind visual traces of the erasure) existing monuments, photography of performative action in Warsaw and videos where both artists either altered, interfered with or just observed different memorials.
Artur Żmijewski is a performance artist mainly known for capturing the extremes of human existence and changing our perception of photography and video.
