The Canadian Centre for Architecture presents a three-part documentary series: What It Takes to Make a Home (2019), When We Live Alone (2020) and When We Grow Older (2023).
Conceived by CCA Director Giovanna Borasi and directed by Daniel Schwartz, this series is part of the CCA’s Catching Up With Life research project.
The documentaries take a deeper look at living in cities that are not suited to modern living. Other challenges to urban society are posed by lifestyle changes that affect the spatial configuration of our environment: the increase in single-person families and the aging of our society.
These current problems also affect life and housing in Prague. Tereza Kalousová, who studied architecture at the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, will prepare an expert introduction to each film. In her architectural and artistic work she deals with questions of identity, home, loneliness and care in relation to the contemporary city. She explores the changing ways of inhabiting it, their impact on society and how they manifest themselves in the space of the city.
The expert introduction and screening is in collaboration with CAMP (Centre for Architecture and Urban Planning in Prague) and CCA (Canadian Centre for Architecture).
