The film “AREnA” resembles a visual collage in a semi-dystopian virtual world. Operating within the aesthetics of video games, Marie Lukáčová collaborated with Jakub Roček to connect film footage and 3D animations to transform a neglected urban environment into a green-screen for play and activation. The artists cooperated with residents of the Oławska neighbourhood in Wroclaw, exploring and creatively reinventing their district. A fictitious environment is transposed into the real world also in Lukáčová’s work “CBDS”. The story of the film takes place in the environment of bunkers and the border area guarded by the Czech Border Defence Society. The characters represented in the film by the homeless living in the bunkers take on the roles of protectors, who prevent free movement of goods and material across the border.
Marie Lukáčová is a Prague based painter, director, animator, and rapper. Her engaged works transform symbols borrowed from the fields of politics, mythology, geology, and science.
